Welcome to Exodus ~ New Beginnings. I am Mindee Flippin. Allow me to tell you my story. I grew up in West Texas, born in Amarillo. I went to small schools and graduated Valedictorian of my humble class of 52. I have a great relationship with my mom and so you also need to know a little about her. My mom is the sole daughter of a cotton farmer. She, along with her three brothers developed polio all at the same time. My mother eventually developed severe scoliosis requiring large steel rods to be placed along her spine and screwed in with bone grafts. She was the first woman aged 30 to undergo this procedure at Houston Methodist Hospital. This procedure was done at that time only on children as it was physically VERY difficult to endure. She was in the hospital away from her family for three long months. She came home wearing a body cast which she would sport for a whole year. I saw my mom grow four inches overnight. I also saw her no longer suffering with debilitating back pain. The seed was planted…I wanted to help people feel better just like the doctors and nurses who helped my mom.
I really wanted to go to medical school, but I didn’t feel that I could be a good mom, wife, AND Doctor. The plan was to go to nursing school. I went to a small hospital based, hands on program. I graduated Valedictorian of Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing. Yes, I am an overachiever! After years of working in the emergency room and in the coronary care unit, I observed several women who were able to keep up with all of their roles if they had a supportive partner. In walks Mr. Flippin…..We married soon after meeting and started medical school a year later. Our three sons were born during my medical school and pediatric training. We finished Pediatric Cardiology and Heart Rhythm traning and moved to Lubbock in January of 2000.
Since moving to Lubbock, I have been very successful but at the same time very frustrated that I could not help my patients more. I always felt there had to be something more I could offer my patients so they could have a better life. The medicine I learned was not helping people have a healthy life. I also had personal frustration in that I couldn’t loose weight and keep it off even though I had the “knowledge” of how to do it. When Dr. Ben Edwards started his holistic practice, I became very interested in it. When I saw what was happening at his clinic, I knew I wanted to learn this “new” way of treating people. What I found out was that it wasn’t new, but it was the true way of living a healthier life. I wanted to share this with my patients so I spent several months learning from Dr. Ben. And now, I am also providing a better way of life.
