  • Profile

Dr. Michael Nowazek originally planned a career in dentistry. With that goal in mind, he attended Brandon University in Brandon, Manitoba, where he was born and raised. He received a Bachelor of Science with a major in chemistry and minor in math.
He had never intended to pursue naturopathic medicine. Rather, he found the profession by accident – through a personal injury.
At the time, Dr. Nowazek was an avid athlete who played hockey and regularly competed in martial arts. Through these activities, he suffered a serious knee injury. Medical doctors told him that his knee would require surgery and that he would never walk properly again.
Seeing that he was unhappy at the prospect of surgery, Dr. Nowazek’s mother suggested he visit a naturopathic doctor for treatment. His science background had him skeptical about the whole thing, yet he went to see if it could help.
The naturopathic doctor he visited treated his injury with acupuncture, vitamin therapies, prolotherapy, diet and nutrition. After 10 treatments, he was able to walk again. After further treatments, he was even able to return to martial arts training.
His positive personal experience with naturopathic medicine pushed Dr. Nowazek to pursue it as a career. He changed his plans to study dentistry and instead applied to the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario.
After four years of intensive study, he graduated as a fully-qualified Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine.
Dr. Nowazek has advanced training in intravenous (IV) therapies, medical ozone therapy, high dose ascorbate and vitamin C therapy, chelation therapy, advanced medical life support, prolotherapy, prolozone therapy and platelet rich plasma therapy.
He has been practicing in Edmonton, Alberta since 1997. In 2008, he opened Green Apple Health Care Ltd.
In addition to maintaining his busy practice, Dr. Nowazek is an active member of several naturopathic associations.
He was president of the Alberta Association of Naturopathic Practitioners (AANP) from January 2000 to December 2007, during which time he oversaw all activities, including the drafting of the laws that now govern naturopathic medicine in the province.  He is currently vice chair of the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND).
He treats all types of health conditions, and has no specific practice focus.  He works with everyone to find the right treatment for their health issues.
