Frederick F. Buechel, Sr., M.D. is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who is world renowned for his surgical skills in total joint replacements of the ankle, knee, hip and shoulder. He has been actively involved in the development of total joint replacements and their surgical instrumentation along with M. Pappas, Ph.D, a mechanical engineering professor at NJ Institute of Technology. Together, they generated over 150 United States and foreign patents on their joint replacements inventions.
The NJ Low Contact Stress (LCS) Knee Replacement is still used worldwide and is his most famous device. It was approved in 1991 after 11 years of clinical trials. During his very successful career, Dr Buechel has taught surgical techniques to residents, colleagues and surgeons from around the world.
Dr. Buechel is a board member of the New Jersey Medical School Alumni Society and the Dean’s Advisory committee. In 2002, he established a Chair in Total Joint Replacement at New Jersey Medical School where he continues to share his expertise. He also established the Buechel Patient Care Research and Education Fund in 2002, enabling him to fund various charities.
